The New England Watercolor Society began in 1885 with 27 charter members. Its membership has included leaders in American art such as Charles Curtis Allen, Frank W. Benson, Childe Hassam, Maurice Prendergast, and John Singer Sargent.
The goal of the Society is to encourage and foster excellence of aquamedia in New England. The Society hosts two annual juried shows, one for signature members only and one open to all artists in New England. In addition, a National juried North American Open show is held every two years. Concurrent with our exhibits are receptions and awards presentation, gallery talks, demonstrations, and workshops led by regionally and nationally recognized watermedia artists. These are open to the general public.
Membership There are currently 200 signature members of the New England Watercolor Society and 150 associate members.
Any artist residing in New England can become a signature artist member of the New England Watercolor Society by being accepted into four juried shows sponsored by the Society. One of these four juried shows must be a NEWS sponsored National Open Show.
Anyone can support the Society by becoming an Associate member which entitles the supporter to the Society's quarterly newsletter, upcoming show prospectuses, show and workshop invitations.
Dues for an Associate membership is $20. For information regarding associate membership please contact Mary Rauscher, 6 Concord Greene Apt #5 Concord, MA 01742; e-mail marly13@verizon.net. |
